Global and Regional Economic Integration - GLEF 3020
Syllabus
This course aims at offering to the students the essential elements to understand the main challenges of the global trade system. It discusses costs and benefits as well as opportunities and challenges of economic integration and cooperation. It presents the design and the economic consequences of trade policies. It presents main international trade organizations, such as World Trade Organization (WTO), and major regional trade agreements, including the NAFTA, ASEAN and MERCOSUR, etc. Special focus will be put on the European Union. Special cessions will be given to present practical tools for trade and trade policy analysis.

1) To understand the economic theory on costs and benefits of trade policy
2) To discuss opportunities and challenges of economic integration and cooperation
3) To understand major international trade and monetary institutions and organizations
4) To be able to search and exploit relevant information on trade and trade policy
